Robert Black, aged 57, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced to 17 weeks’ imprisonment following a Thames Valley Police investigation into a number of thefts and criminal damage offences. Black pleaded guilty to six counts of theft and one count each of criminal damage, possession of a weapon, public order and breaching court bail at Reading Magistrates Court on Thursday 6 August. Investigating officer PC Rhys White of the Newbury Neighbourhood Team, said: This is a positive result which demonstrates our determination to pursue prolific offenders who repeatedly target businesses and members of the public. Black’s offending had a direct impact on local businesses, retail staff and members of the community. The sentence imposed reflects the seriousness of his actions and sends a clear message that persistent and prolific offending will not be tolerated. PC Rhys White added: Black showed a complete disregard for the law, continuing to offend whilst on court bail, breaching conditions imposed upon him by the court and committing further offences despite already being subject to a suspended sentence. The police have thanked the victims, witnesses, retail staff and investigating officers whose support and evidence helped secure this successful conviction.
