AR Foods Ltd, trading as Anjappar Chettinad Indian Restaurant on Kings Road, Reading, was formally closed by the Council’s food and safety team after a visit on 23rd July revealed evidence of a rodent infestation. Officers found live rodents and rat droppings in food storage and food handling areas, with several food products exposed to contamination. The business voluntarily disposed of the affected stock and was issued a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice (HEPN), closing the restaurant. A court process was initiated, and Reading Magistrates Court agreed the HEPN on 31st July 2026, issuing a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order (HEPO) requiring the premises to remain closed until the health risk was removed. The Council was awarded £1,055 in costs. Following a revisit on 4th August, officers were satisfied that the imminent risk to health had been removed, and the premises were permitted to reopen.
