The south entrance of West Berkshire Community Hospital from London Road will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles from Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May 2026 due to ongoing construction work for the Trust’s new MRI community diagnostic centre.

Patients will still be able to access the hospital via the North Entrance on Turnpike Road. The new facility will be home to two new MRI scanners and will be capable of delivering 17,500 MRI scans annually, meeting the growing demand for advanced diagnostic imaging across Berkshire West.

The facility is the latest addition to the development of radiology facilities at West Berkshire Community Hospital, which has seen substantial investment and improvements into imaging services since joining the government’s Community Diagnostic CDC Programme in 2021. This includes the opening of a new mammography unit, DEXA scanner and two ultrasound suites in December 2024, and two digital plain film x-ray machines and cone beam CT scanner in 2023.

‘This work marks the next phase of this exciting development that will bring improved diagnostic facilities closer to the homes of residents in Newbury and surrounding areas. We recognise that this temporary disruption might cause some inconvenience, and we would like to thank patients, visitors and local residents for their understanding.’

said Andy Statham, Chief Strategy Officer.
